Now, as the global industry pivots hard toward electrification, those same suppliers face a question that keeps their executives up at night: what happens when the world stops buying what you make? Incheon Technopark, the region's industrial innovation hub, is betting it has at least part of the answer.

Incheon TP has opened applications for a "Demand-Driven Technology Transition Package Support Program," with a deadline of June 30. Roughly 16 companies will be selected for professional technical consulting worth up to 23 million won each, covering process redesign, digital design, and computer-aided engineering (CAE) analysis. Another 22 firms will receive direct funding for material costs and the testing and evaluation work needed to actually produce prototype parts for future vehicles. Think of it as two parallel tracks: one teaches companies to think differently, the other helps them build the thing.
The whole program sits inside a larger initiative called the "Establishment of a Demonstration Base for High-Strength, High-Thermal Conductivity Lightweight Metal Material Parts" — a mouthful of a name that hints at where Incheon sees the real prize. Lightweight metals engineered for next-generation EV architectures, where every gram shaved off a chassis translates directly into range and, ultimately, sticker-price competitiveness.

An Incheon TP representative framed the shift in stark terms: technological transition for parts suppliers has become a critical challenge as the auto industry pivots toward electrification and eco-friendliness — and the region intends to actively help local firms clear the bar. Around two specialized consulting providers per field will be selected to deliver the actual technical services.

Incheon isn't just funding the destination; it's building the bridge — the consultancies, the CAE infrastructure, the prototype labs — alongside the parts makers themselves. It's a regional bet that, if it works, becomes a template other industrial clusters will be pressured to copy.
